“The Church of Scientology is very proud to be hosting these Swing Dance fundraisers monthly,” said Ms. Lisa Mansell, the Public Affairs Director for the Church. “They bring people together to have fun and support local charities.”

The Swing Dance for Charity events benefit a different charity each month, allowing dancers to contribute to many non-profits around the Tampa Bay area. Past participating charities include the Boy Scouts of America, Pinellas Sheriff’s Police Athletics League, My Hope Chest, Fisher House and the Pinellas County Foster and Adoptive Parents Association.

The event starts with a dance lesson by Ms. Arleene Norman of the Savoy South Dance Hall. Afterwards, the dance floor is open and guests dance to a live band in the Fort Harrison’s Crystal Ballroom.

Open for over 20 years, the Savoy South Dance Hall has provided group and private dance instructions for many different dances including Ballet, Jazz, Tap and Flamenco. This dance studio was named after The Savoy, a dance club in Harlem, New York with a ballroom 10,000 square feet in size, which was very popular in the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s.

The Butterfly Effect of Golf was founded by Mr. Robert Dooley and provides an educational experience for Tampa Bay youth to learn how golf can have an effect in their life; whether through STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) or through the social experience of golf.
