A Chinese ballet company will be showcasing various performances of popular ballets next Sunday, merging Eastern and Western culture through dance.
The Guangzhou ballet was founded in 1993 and has always centred around combining Western and Eastern styles of dancing, Mediterranean Conference Centre artistic director Tony Cassar Darien said.
This is the first time the ballet group will be in Malta, as part of the Theatrical Silkroad, where a delegation from China links with a country in the Mediterranean for performances, he added.
The company currently has a repertoire of 17 large-scale dance operas and more than 70 small- and medium-sized programmes, and its unique artistic style inherits fine cultural traditions. It is known for creating and performing a series of original operas.
Over the past years, the company has performed multiple shows internationally. The show will feature performances from popular ballets Giselle and La Sylphide.
The performance will take place on December 30 at 7.30pm at the Mediterranean Conference Centre.
