Havana, July 21 (RHC) -- The Cuban National Ballet School has highlighted the victory of student Yasiel Hodelin in the seventh International Online Ballet Competition in South Africa (Saibc).

The student of the National Ballet School Fernando Alonso recently won the second place in the Juniors category at the competition in which 155 young people from several countries participated.

Due to the impact of COVID-19 in the world, the event’s seventh edition had to use a unique and pioneering method: to meet in a virtual way. The event also included a series of free daily workshops broadcast live from the Saibc Facebook page. The jury had as its member the Deputy Director at the Cuban National Ballet School Fernando Alonso, Martha Iris Fernández.

Along with her, it was also made up of the Artistic Director of the Kirov Ballet Academy in Washington, in the US, Runqiao Du; Roberta Martins of the Zurich Dance Academy in Switzerland; South Africa’s Thoriso Magongwa from the Brno National Theater in the Czech Republic and the Director of the National Ballet of China, Feng Ying. The jury was chaired by the Artistic Director of the Dutch National Ballet in the Netherlands, Ted Brandsen, and also included other company directors in Portugal, South Korea and Germany.
